Blacktown Courthouse

The redevelopment of Blacktown Court House presented significant difficulties in that the court was to remain fully operational during construction. Programming and staging of the works required extensive consultation with the Attorney Generals Project Team and the staff of the Court House particularly in relation to proposed shut down periods, security and amenity issues.

Through the project many issues arose due to altered scope and the sequence requiring most works to be carried out outside of normal hours. Items such as the inclusion of a prisoner tunnel and prisoner lift raised issues that necessitated a methodical and patient approach from all parties to the contract to enable works to be completed without undue disruption to the operations of the court.

The site being located centrally in Blacktown with all of the available site being taken up by the building footprint required innovative planning for site access & provision of site facilities.

Perseverance, patience and a cooperative project team have produced a product in an extremely difficult environment that is certainly beyond the original expectations of the client.
