Lismore Integrated Cancer Care Centre

The construction of the new $27 million Lismore Integrated Cancer Care Centre reflects the accomplishment of passionate people, ensuring the delivery of better health services to the communities of the Northern Rivers and surrounding regions for many years to come.

National Buildplan Group was appointed as design builder in November 2008 to design and construct the 4 level 4500m² North Coast Cancer Institute (NCCI) Lismore Cancer Care and Haematology Unit within the grounds of the Lismore Base Hospital. Following the completion of a detailed design process ensuring the building met strict Australasian Health Facility and TS-11 Engineering Services Guidelines, construction commenced on site in January 2009.

The building has been designed to be sympathetic to the surroundings, whilst the use of high end finishes and the extensive use of natural light through an innovative Atrium in the centre of the building ensure a relaxed non-clinical feeling for both patients and staff alike.

The NCCI Lismore Cancer Care and Haematology Unit offer radiation oncology, haematology and medical oncology services. The new unit encompasses leading edge equipment in the delivery of treatment to patients including an Elekta Synergy System linear accelerator, a Siemens Sensation CT Scanner and a Gulmay Medical Orthovoltage machine.

Innovative construction processes were implemented to construct concrete walls up to 2.4 m thick providing radiation shielding to the bunker areas which house the linear accelerator.

Inclusions include a passenger lift and essential services such as electrical, nurse call, duress, electronic security access, CCTV, medical gas, mechanical and hydraulic services have all been developed, designed and implemented in close consultation with user groups to suit the requirements of the North Coast Area Health Service.

The appearance of the building is like many of today’s modern hospitals with texture coated concrete, alucobond and vitrepanel pre-finished cladding, extensive glazing, sun shading, glazed and face brickwork ensuring the building provides a modern and fresh look for the existing hospital.

An exceptional project delivered on time and on budget for an important client.
