Assessment Unit

The refurbishment carried out by National Buildplan is part of a major capital investment for the upgrade of the Nepean health facility for local people and will lead into the next stage of development, which has soon more than $80 million invested in additional capacity for the Nepean campus.

National Buildplan Group was engaged to complete the design and construction of the Stage 2 Medical Assessment Unit located on Level 3 at the Nepean Hospital Campus. The project consisted of several new four bed and single bed rooms including showers, toilets and specialised bariatric care facilities. The works also included construction of new office space, meeting rooms and storage facilities. The project was the second stage of the Medical Assessment Unit upgrade so careful consideration was given to separating the construction area from the operational hospital ward. We provided dust proof hoardings and separate construction access via and external scaffold & hoist to eliminate disruption to the operation hospital facility.

Construction works included the demolition of existing offices and corridor and fitout of the new ward on the existing level 3. Buildplan supplied new Electrical, Hydraulic, Mechanical & Medical Gas Services within the ward. Ongoing consultation with the user group was the key success to this upgrade as the hospital maintained ongoing operations around the construction site without unforeseen services interruptions.

Construction involved 6 wet areas and the majority of the hydraulic drainage had to be accessed via level two, which housed several million dollars worth of medical equipment. Buildplan worked closely with our consultant team to ensure the designs could be integrated with the existing level 2 services without the need to disrupt and relocate services. This process provided significant costs savings and eliminated the risks associated with unforeseen services relocations.

The SWAHS facilities management commented that the standard of finish achieved was of a very high quality. Refurbishment works within hospitals require a high level of commitment from the project team. Our proven track record in these projects allowed Buildplan to deliver a high quality project which exceeded the client’s expectations.
