Lismore Cardiac Catheter LaboratoryThe construction of the new $3.5 million Lismore Cardiac Catheter Laboratory at the Lismore Base Hospital was a significant boost to health services for the NSW Northern Rivers Community. The project was delivered under a Design and Construct contract and was completed in April 2010. The new 580m² building constructed above the main entrance to the busy Lismore Base Hospital provided Buildplan with a number of challenges, the most important being ensuring the hospital remained fully operational and that staff and visitor access remained unhindered. To do this Buildplan constructed a temporary ramp from the adjacent street level across the entrance courtyard to the site on level 6 ensuring efficient and safe access for Buildplan staff and subcontractors. Essential services such as electrical, nurse call, duress, electronic security access, CCTV, medical gas, mechanical and hydraulic services have all been developed, designed and implemented in close consultation with user groups to suit the requirements of the North Coast Area Health Service. The new Laboratory will greatly benefit patients with serious conditions such as heart disease, angina and other acute coronary syndromes. |
