Southern Regional Livestock Exchange – Moss Vale, NSW
The Southern Regional Livestock Exchange involved the design and construct of a 10,000m² roof structure over the existing livestock sales yard, in Moss Vale, Wingecarribee Shire Council.
Buildplan provided an alternate design solution in lieu of the original designed saw tooth roof, utilising composite lightweight structural steel members in a portal frame configuration supported on screw piers, clad with Kingspan Composite insulated roof panels. Services include a 30kw solar system, rain harvest and storm water system, fire services and lighting.
Construction activities were staged around the weekly operations of a live cattle sales yard, with the facility continuing normal sales operations for the duration of the build. This entailed very detailed and careful planning, design and implementation of strict a safety plan and weekly engineers inspection and certification of the structure in progress. Typically 2,000 head of cattle are auctioned weekly with extra store sale days boosting that to 3,500 head on a regular basis. Close communication with operational staff, livestock sales agents and subcontractors was paramount and crucial to the projects success.
