Sutherland HospitalThe construction of the new Community Health Centre at Sutherland Hospital was a much needed community facility. Services provided by the Centre include child health, pediatric speech pathology, drug/alcohol rehabilitation, aboriginal health and child/youth mental health. The new building is located within the hospital grounds on the location of a former carpark and tennis court. The building is immediately adjacent to the main hospital building, two child care centres and is bordered by the main internal hospital roads. Accordingly, careful planning and traffic control was required to ensure that construction vehicles would not pose a danger to the child centres or cause disruption to the hospital traffic flow. The building, with an area of some 2000m2 contains approximately 140 rooms and is finished internally with bright colours and finishes to create a warm friendly environment. Special consideration had to be given to sound transmission between rooms and accordingly many areas required high levels of acoustic treatment. External finishes include a variety of child play areas such as coloured rubber play surfaces, coloured concrete paths, shade sails, play mulch and landscaped areas. Strong professional relationships between the parties to the contract have provided a framework for producing a product that continues to meet or exceed the stated required outcomes of the parties. |
